Essential Job Functions
As a Purchasing Agent for our client, you will be responsible for managing and supporting the full purchasing lifecycle for multiple active and upcoming residential communities. This includes vendor management, PO processing, pricing negotiations, and maintaining accurate purchasing records to support efficient construction operations. You will play a key role in ensuring cost control, maintaining vendor relationships, and supporting overall project success.
The goal for this hire is to bring an experienced purchasing professional into the organization who can take ownership of purchasing functions, identify process improvements, and help scale operations during a time of growth.
Position Responsibilities
- Manage the release of purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of pricing, coding, and timely delivery to vendors.
- Coordinate with vendors to negotiate pricing adjustments, update contracts, and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Support the setup and launch of new residential communities by preparing comprehensive start packages and material orders.
- Approve VPOs (vendor purchase orders) submitted by construction managers, reviewing for accuracy before final release.
- Monitor and respond to system-generated errors, ensuring that purchasing data remains current and accurate.
- Maintain strong working relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth purchasing operations.
- Participate in vendor meetings and bidding processes after mastering core purchasing processes.
- Analyze purchasing reports and metrics to identify issues, recommend improvements, and enhance purchasing performance.
- Collaborate with the purchasing manager and other internal departments to ensure alignment across project objectives.
Position Qualifications
- Preferably 5+ years of experience in residential construction purchasing or related roles.
- Strong proficiency in reviewing and managing purchase orders and construction-related purchasing documentation.
- Experience negotiating pricing and managing vendor relationships.
- Ability to handle a high volume of purchasing transactions with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in the use of purchasing or construction management software systems; familiarity with SupplyPro is highly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address purchasing challenges proactively.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work independently without daily supervision.
- Commitment to high-quality work and an interest in building a long-term career within the organization.
